I too feel like a naked baby with a clarinet.

I know the feeling. I lived in Germanyfor a little over two years and the driving there is completely different. Moved to Texas and I won’t even get into how bad it is here.

There is no lane discipline here. Weren’t they going to start aggressively ticketing left lane campers? What happened with that?

Just pretend it’s Germany, people here in Portland are so indignant and panicky that they’ll move over in shock if you do something as aggressive as flashing your lights at them on the highway.

I’m in San Antonio as well. It is absolutely awful. I’ve been bitching about other drivers on ramp speed since I got here. People are in there own world here. I see something new everyday on the road and it is mind boggling, just when I thought I’ve seen everything here someone surprises me.

I too share your sentiment being from Los Angeles (aka. hell for driving, taxes, cost of living,etc....)

It works here too, but I feel like a dick doing it. Better than tail-gating, of course.

On the other hand, I spent last week driving a Lancia Ypsilon around Italy, and am finding driving in the PNW this week to be very, very relaxing.

I’ve fully embraced being a dick to poor inattentive drivers (maybe a byproduct of daily driving a BMW 5 series). My standard operating procedure for people who do not move out of the way after a few highbeam flashes is to pass them slowly on the right side, make eye contact, and give them a “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed” head shake as I go past...
9/10 times they then move over :)

That works.

I was on I-10 today and you know how the on ramps turn into the exit lanes? I swear no one knows how to speed up and get in the flow of traffic while people are trying to exit, it’s not that hard.

We do have a worse than average merging skill up here, and people really do the “no, you go first” thing. But early on a Sunday morning there are some really nice roads to fly down....
